The Seven Realms--Thank you!!

I’d like to thank everyone who has joined me on this journey with Han, Raisa, Cat, Dancer, Micah, Fiona, Amon and the rest. Who stuck with them when a planned trilogy turned into a quartet.  Who took my characters into their hearts and laughed, cried, fought, loved and lost with them through four novels totaling more than 2200 pages. Who encouraged me through the 27-page editorial letter and the endless revisions, false starts, and blind alleys that inevitably happen on the way through an epic tale. Who let me know in no uncertain terms when I disappointed them. Or pleased them.
I’d like to thank the readers who got on board early—those fans of the Heir Chronicles who decided to “take a chance” on high fantasy. And the high fantasy fans who wondered if a writer whose previous novels were set in Ohio was up to the task of building a brand new world.  Some of you who follow me on line know my secret—the world of the Seven Realms was already built when I set out to write The Demon King. I created the Seven Realms for The Star-Marked Warder, a high fantasy series for adults that I began but never finished. Some of the characters in The Seven Realms YA series appear in SMW as adults. I believe in recycling and repurposing.
Blessed are the readers who worked their way through the world-building in The Demon King and told their friends it was a journey worth taking. Who waited, sometimes impatiently, for the story to unfold over four years. And bless those new readers I’m hearing from now—who blaze through all four books in a week and want to know if there will be more.
Tip of the hat to Team Amon. I know some of you were disappointed, but know that Amon’s and Raisa’s lives entwine and entangle for years to come.
I’ve met so many people at bookstore signings, library appearances, school visits, bookfests, and conferences over these four years. That is one of the BEST parts of this job. Not only does getting out and meeting people get me out of sweats and pajamas now and then—but I get to hang out with people who love books! How awesome is that?

Why Stop with Four?
Who says I am?
I felt the need to provide some closure to readers, and at least a temporary  happy ending for Han and Raisa. Come on, don’t you think they deserved it, after all they’ve been through? And don’t you hate it when a series goes on and on and on and you get the impression the author is milking it out of greed? I’d rather have people asking for more than hitting the exits before the series is over.
So--I don’t have specific plans for more Seven Realms novels at this point. Obviously, it’s a big place and with many stories to tell. I know a lot of the challenges and disasters that lie ahead for Han and Raisa, because of The Star-Marked Warder. So I may yet return to the Seven Realms. It depends, of course, on how these books do, publisher interest, and like that. Certainly, it’s a place I feel comfortable living—and writing--in.

Whatever happens, readers of this blog and my followers on Facebook will be the first to know! So stay tuned.

On the contrary! Thank you for creating The seven Realms, and it was really necessary a fourth book! But more? No. Although it would be awesome if after you made a spin-off of the saga. Consider it.
Greetings, México loves you!

Did you publish The Star Marked Warder?

So agree you needed to end book 4 with a happy ending for Han and Raisa. But please, please, please think of more to the series. It's just so fantastic.

Can't wait for your next book in the Fall.

Cinda, thank YOU! I was one of the early adopters chapter of Demon King - read the first pages in my copy of Dragon Heir and decided to give it a try. And what a ride it has been!

Thank you for the characters that didn't just leap, but high-jumped and somersaulted off the page. Thank you for the world that is as well-realized as any I've read. Thank you for the enthralling mysteries that I pored over. And thank you for what may be the most satisfying finale I've ever read.

I would love to read more about this world and these characters because I love them so much. But if not, I am very happy just rereading the four books over and over.

And I will be picking up the Enchanter Heir on its release day, of course!

Maybe a new twist in the series ? That's if you want to continue the book, I wouldn't want one of my beloved authors to write a book with only half a heart into it.

I'm amazed that a book that I picked up because of a cool cover has turned into my favorite series of all time. More stories in the Fells would be a dream come true, no book has ever manipulated my feels as well as The Crimson Crown. I wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors.

Unknown said...

The crimson crown is hands down my favorite book. The seven realms series is my favorite! I have never read a series that was this good! I think that you should write more of them, I will definitely be purchasing them!

These books were thoroughly enjoyable and the epilogue neatly tied up the story.

Raisa, Han, Amon, Micah and Cat clearly have more to tell....perhaps they might persuade you to continue to share news of and in The Seven Realms?

THANK YOU for sharing their stories; you are a remarkable and gifted author. Come see us in Minneapolis!

EDIT: This has been an amazing series, and I would love to see more in the future. There are still many avenues that can be explored. How does Micah react to everything? What happens with Arden? After the seige and wedding what happens to newly formed (and forced) relationship between the Demonai and Wizards? Also, the Star-Marked Warder sounds like it would be a great series, I hope you manage to finish it and get it published. It would be very interesting to see how these characters act as adults in an adult series, as well as what direction their lives take. If you keep writing them, we'll keep reading them!! thanks for all your work!

Whew! I was so scared to read this page thinking that you would shut the series down much like a certain very popular British novelist did after her 7 book series was finished. I met you in Coral Gables last year when The Crimson Crown came out and someone asked you if there would be more. You answered somewhat dismissively at the time stating that since you already knew the ending (because of the above referenced adult story), it was pointless. At least that was your inference. Although you did hint at the possibility and I suspect you were having a good bit of fun teasing us. But I thought, "no!", there's so much rich possibility here. So many stories and details and journeys yet to be discovered. I have also tried REALLY hard not to read anything about the adult story because I fear it would ruin all the stories I have floating through my head about what happens next to these characters that I've grown to love. I also don't want to read the above comments for the same reason. I love a good book. I especially love a good book about personal journeys. I have loved the written word since I was a very young girl and I never worry whether a book was written for my demographic or not. A good story is a good story. And a good story told by a gifted writer is a rare and wonderful thing. It has been a long time since I've been ensnared by characters as rich and real as the characters in your Seven Realms series. I dream of some day being a writer as talented as you are, and I hope you return to The Seven Realms sooner than later. Until then, thank you so much for the journey thus far and who knows? Maybe I'll pass the time with a few Fan Fiction stories imagining where I'd like to see my beloved (and not so beloved) characters go! P.S. You were completely dismissive of the idea of Hanalea and Alger stories when we met last fall. Awwww... Come on...pllleeeze?

I would thoroughly enjoy a continuation of the Seven Realms!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for this thrilling ride with both of your series. You are by far my favorite fantasy writer; with how you spin and shape your stories. Yet again thank you!!!! :)

I would just like to tell you that I love the Seven Realms Series! Han Alister is a awesome character, and the story is very well developed and thought through! And it is so incredibly good it has reached Brazil! Yep that's where I live. Please do a fifth book, the series is too good to end. Don't feel like you HAVE to, I'd just be very, truly happy if you did!
:)

Unknown said...

I Love your book! Please do a fifth one, the Fells is my home! Don't feel like it's law but please do it? I have much to say but it is the third time I am writing this and I am getting tired of re writing. :/ Please do a fifth book? I loved the Crimson Crown! :)

Ms Williams, I really hope that you continue the series. I've moved reading and re-reading the novels. I actually picked up the Enchanter Heir thinking it was the next book in the Seven Realms series, once again read the other books in the Realms series, and was SO disappointed that it was for the Heir chronicles. Please don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Heir chronicles as well, but was so sad to realize the story wasn't continuing.
I am so glad for the happiness Raisa and Han found. I want to know about Klemath, Micah and Mellony. Can Raisa reunite the people of the fells. One of the ways I thought that could happen is that Raisa would group a vale, clan and wizard family to create new families, and they would somehow have to lea r to work together. Or build a magical school out of the rubble of southbridge where wizards and clan could come together to learn how to use earth magic and high magic together, and then help to successfully defend the fells against Klemath...

Please, the series can't be over. I enjoy your books so much. I can console myself with re-reading the previous Heir books before jumping into the new one. Thank you for the free mini-story to help bridge the gaps. All the best I. Your future writing and revising endeavours!

I just finished rereading "The Seven Realms". It warms my heart every time I get to the end, finishing beautifully while leaving the potential for more stories without detracting from the current ending. I look forward to future installments.

hi, i just wanted to say im 13 and i am in love with the seven realms series, i love reading but when i first saw the first book and decided that i would give it a try i never new that i would be stepping into a new world. im in the middle of teh 3rd book and i am reading all the time, i got yelled at by my science class for reading and not writing. thanks for giving me some pretty cool ideas about what to do book reports on and oh, so much better than the twilight series.

please write more about raisa!!!!

JRRoss said...

I would love more if you felt inspired to create more! But I'm also content with letting the story end where it has. If not true continuations of the main characters stories, but more stories within the world that could somehow connect/cross paths with the main characters along the way. Like how Tamora Pierce has done with her books Set in Tortal, and less so in the world she built for The Circle stories.

I absolutely loved the series and the world and had a burst of gleeful delight when I happened upon the second book when it first came out after having not realized it had been released because I had tried not to think too much about over the wait for it because I wanted it so bad!

From the second I read the first book in the heir series, when it was first published, I was hooked and have remained a crazed fan for Cinda William Chima's books. I waited patiently(the patiently part is a gigantic lie) for each book to come out, especially the seven realms books and have almost never been disappointed. The seven realm novels remain my favourite series along with twilight and harry potter. Thank you for creating a beautiful world with characters you can't help but love and connect to. I hope, beg, plead, for you to write some more books about the seven realms with han , raisa and all the rest of the crew we've come to know over the years. You have a wonderful gift. Use it well and enjoy it! Don't let all the publishers and fans lesson the love you have of writing. Take it from someone who knows it. Thank you again.

I've just read all of the Seven Realms novels in 3 weeks after grabbing The Demon King at random from a library shelf because my son was about to kick off and I didn't have time to browse! (I call this library technique "the smash and grab" and I am very thankful to it because it has brought me to many authors I wouldn't have otherwise discovered had I been judging a book by its cover). These books have made a huge impression on me. I loved them all so much, I was addicted, reading late into every night. Now I have withdrawal symptoms! I love Dancer, he was my favourite, more Dancer, please!! :D

I fell in love with the series the moment I read the very first sentence. I can't help but wish I knew what happened to Raisa and Han's marriage, do they ever have children? Does Raisa put the arrogant king of Arden in his place? Perhaps not another book in the Seven Realms series, but a spin off hopefully. By the way The Exiled Queen was the subject of the essay I wrote for a chance at a scholarship, so I believe a thank you is in order. I like to think it was the essay that sealed the deal. I am definitely hooked and plan to read some more of your work! :D

My husband and I are both in our 60's. Our nephew checked out the seven realms series of 4 books on Audio CD. We live 25 miles from the nearest Library, so he lent them to us. We loved all 4 books and listened to the complete set twice. Sure wish there were more.

I am seriously in LOVE with this series and these characters. I know I am late in the bandwagon but they allow such an escape for me on my way too and from work, and sometimes when I feel like ignoring my kids haha, I do hope that you will consider revisiting the Seven Realms. While I have not yet read book I am already getting sad thinking of the end.

I so hope you make another book in the series,or in the world that the books take place in. It was one of the few series that I couldn't put downew. I hope you do not loose faith in writing because you are my favorite author even though I never pick favorites. So thank you so much for creating this amazing series. I applaud you.

Still reading it over and over again, yet in 2017. It's my favorite saga, together with HP and LotR. Appreciate all the work you've put into creating it. Thank you.

I would greatly appreciate another couple of books, or even just one more in the seven realms. It is, without a doubt, the series with the most interesting story and characters.
